Meet the Teacher

Introduction

My name is Tiffany Maxwell.  I was born in Richmond, Virginia and I have lived in Chesterfield County since I was 3!  I went to Bellwood Elementary, Salem Middle, and Lloyd C. Bird High.  I have always loved school and had the desire to teach, but it was in high school that I truly discovered how rewarding it would be to become an educator.  After having the pleasure of volunteering at my old elementary school with my favorite teacher and mentor, I began to learn the profession.

Education

I went to Richard Bland College and earned my Associates in Science.  While I was at Richard Bland, I worked at South Elementary as an aide for the library.  It was then that I knew Prince George was the place I wanted to be!  I went on to Longwood University where I earned my Bachelors in Science for Liberal Studies with an Elementary Education concentration.  I also recieved a minor in photography.  During breaks, I took every chance I could in the classroom as a substitute for Chesterfield County.  I had 4 field placement experiences throughout my stay at Longwood including kindergarten at both Cloverhill and Elizabeth Scott Elementary in Chesterfield County, third grade at Crewe Primary in Nottoway County, and first and fourth grades at Beazley Elementary in Prince George.

While in school I participated in Marching Band, Band Council (President), Future Educators of America, National Art Honor Society, Yearbook, Interact Club, Latin Club, S.A.D.D (Student Advisor), Phi Theta Kappa: International Honor Society for 2 year Colleges (President), Kappa Delta Pi: Education Honor Society (Publicity and Activities Chair), Phi Kappa Phi: International Honor Society for top 10 percent, and WMLU: Longwood's Radio Station.

Career

After graduating with honors (Magna Cum Laude) in May of 2010, I was very excited to accept my first job as a third grade teacher at Beazley Elementary alongside some of the greatest.  I moved to first grade last year and I'm very excited to teaching first grade again this year!

Family

In October of 2010, I married my bestfriend and high school sweetheart, Rick.  We met in marching band where we both played clarinet.  We have an two dogs named Maeby and Dazy named and continue to reside in Chesterfield County.  In December, we will be welcoming our first little one into the world!  We can't wait to meet Sam!  Rick is a real estate agent at Open Door Realty.  He also owns a Recording Studio named Rock-it Science Studios.  I have one sister, 2 nieces named Hazel and Charleigh and 1 nephew named Aiden.  Rick has 4 brothers and 3 sisters who live in Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, and Ohio!

Teaching Philosophy

It is my lifelong goal to teach in an environment that is exciting and stimulating.  For me, teaching students is more than teaching Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.  While those subjects play an important role in shaping our students, I think it is important to teach students to simply love learning.  I go far beyond the textbook with a hands on approach to learning using the newest available technology in this iGeneration.  It is my goal, that every child reach their fullest potential and grow substantially throughout the year.  Gaining academic, behavioral, and social skills all while gaining confidence, students will work hard to master the objectives for the Virginia Standards of Learning in a unique way.  I provide a learning style that suits every childs individual needs whether it be through a visual, auditory, or hands on learning approach.  I strongly encourage questions.  I also stress the importance of making mistakes and more importantly, using those mistakes as a learning tool.  Through use of creative art, music, and various traditional and nontraditional approaches, we will have an amazing adventure this year that will be sure to quench your child's thirst for knowledge!
